Alia Schwelling
Forced Labour Officer, Berlin Advice Centre for Migration and Decent Work (BEMA)
Alia Schwelling received her BA in European Studies (with Distinction) from Maastricht University and her MA in Migration Studies (also with Distinction) from SOAS, University of London. She received a scholarship from the Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes (German Academic Scholarship Foundation). She has been working in the field of migration and displacement since 2015, initially alongside her studies and later full-time. Since 2022, she has been working at Arbeit und Leben Berlin-Brandenburg as an advisor with a focus on forced labour, labour exploitation and human trafficking. In her role at the Berliner Beratungszentrum für Migration und Gute Arbeit BEMA (Berlin Advice Centre for Migration and Decent Work), which is run by Arbeit und Leben Berlin-Brandenburg and funded by the Berlin Senate Department for Labour, Social Services, Gender Equality, Integration, Diversity and Anti-Discrimination, she supports those affected in asserting their rights. Previously, she also worked as an advisor at the Service Centre against forced labour at Arbeit und Leben, which is funded by the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs.
